This specifically refers to a hand striking the side of a person’s face, tells quite a different story when placed in it’s proper historical context. In Jesus’s time, striking someone of a lower class ( a servant) with the back of the hand was used to assert authority and dominance. If the persecuted person “turned the other cheek,” the discipliner was faced with a dilemma. The left hand was used for unclean purposes, so a back-hand strike on the opposite cheek would not be performed. Another alternative would be a slap with the open hand as a challenge or to punch the person, but this was seen as a statement of equality. Thus, by turning the other cheek the persecuted was in effect putting an end to the behavior or if the slapping continued the person would lawfully be deemed equal and have to be released as a servant/slave.
THAT makes a lot more sense, now, thank you.
we’re doing this rn in theology class but im gonna be That Person and ask for a source because this sounds legit but if im gonna talk about this im gonna need to cite something
ok found a few sources for this actually so Yes this seems like a solid reading of the quote

I need someone to preach this. I’ll have to use it in some spoken word at church.
Jesus said slap that hoe back.
Yay, sources! I heard this a while ago but didn’t have any evidence to go on. I’m so glad. That passage isn’t about being nice to your oppressors, turning the other cheek isn’t an act of passivity. It’s about turning the tables and taking back dignity. It’s about shaming those who would oppress. People don’t seem to get that Jesus wasn’t a ‘bear your yoke quietly’ kind of guy. He was an agitator and a radical, and these kind of readings inspire me so much to fight, not just people on the street but people in the church who would have us accept their toxic teachings and ask for more.
Yeah, shit like this? Just proves how much those in power deliberately warp shit to their benefit. They twist any sort of resistance to the status quo to be utterly useless and then sneak it into everything as subtle propaganda. Like how “violence is never the answer” and “an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind” are the twisted versions that deprive folks of justice. No revolution was truly 100% bloodless, tho history can be rewritten to erase that fact, or skew it to serve as fear-mongering bullshit.
I will reblog ever time it’s on my dash. This is important.
Minx and I had this argument a few days ago.
this egg fucking froze because our fridge is too cold
Why would you keep the eggs on the fridge?
we keep our eggs in the fridge…so they don’t denature? do you not refrigerate your eggs?
Because of the way our eggs are processed and the prevalence of salmonella in american chickens, americans have to fridge their eggs.
Wait, they don’t refrigerate eggs in other countries?
wait what people in other countries dont refrigerate eggs???
OH EMM GEE NEW MINX SHIRTS IN TIME FOR XMAS!

I wanna start off saying I completely agree with this. Animations are bound to have errors, and that shouldn’t necessarily mean that it stops us from enjoying a movie… dependent on what errors those are and how the animators handle it. I think the issue for me is the type of mistakes that are noticeable and ones that aren’t. As in, I know there are mistakes in every animation ever, when you’re dealing with so many frames and working with so many animators, it’s bound to happen. However, I personally believe there is a definite disadvantage to CGI movies, because their mistakes tend to be more obvious, such as the end scene where Kristoff’s hand clips through Anna’s body. Texture issues are the worst. I feel as though an error like that breaks a person immersion in a film, because it reminds a viewer. “Oh, right, this was made on a computer someplace.” where in animation you’re supposed to be able to believe that the characters on a screen are living, breathing things with thoughts and feelings and dreams. The whole hair phasing thing? Not a big deal—you barely even notice it, but clipping textures? I respect that it might have been unavoidable, as sometimes in a 3D animation program sometimes the models just don’t feel like working with you, and in such a large scale production it more than likely wouldn’t be wise to scrap the rig and start over again. However I feel like if it was an issue that couldn’t be fixed, the scene should have been altered accordingly. Basically what I’m saying is that, yes, Frozen has errors, has some flaws, but it’s a great film and you should definitely watch it, but I’m also saying people shouldn’t give others a hard time for being either upset or complaining about the animation errors within the film if it broke their personal immersion, because it’s just as valid as a person complaining about an actor’s bad job of portraying a character—and we all LOVE to do that.
"God i can’t believe Frozen has soooo many mistakes!!!!! Disney should do so much better!!"
i mean movies can’t have mistakes
man what were they thinking?
i just can’t believe it
movies have mistakes in them man. Not just frozen believe it or not

it’s finally happening. it’s the 90’s lax sequel animation quality all over again only this time it’s worse, as it’s with a theatrical release, not a straight to VHS =x
